I have been commuting to work on a Honda Reflex for two years now, and I plan on reviving my old Schwinn cruiser for riding around when I am home. Hey, that old cruiser worked great for paper routes when I was a teenager. Trips to the store should be nothing for it.
Ride Safe
I'm 15, What is a good gas scooter or moped that I could get for under 1,000?
must go at-least 30mph.

I live in Michigan around the Detroit area, and I've been toying around with ways I can survive without a car. It's getting to expensive to drive; my car payment plus insurance is almost $500 a month, and I only work part time and go to school so it seems like this is where most of my money goes.
I was thinking of perhaps selling my car and getting a 150cc gas scooter instead to commute to work and school. I live about 15 miles away from my job, and about 20 miles away from school. I can get to both without using the freeway on 45 mph roads though.
I did have access to an old, beat up car to use when it snows / rains that I could use as a backup.
Has anyone else ever tried giving up their car for a scooter? How expensive/difficult are they to maintain? Would 150cc be enough to travel around 40 - 50 miles round trip?
Thanks
To clarify, yes I did have access to an old, beat up car, but it is not very reliable so I'd prefer to use it as a backup and enjoy getting 80 mph and paying very low insurance rates.
bike tires last between 3 and 5 thousand miles price a set and do the math. my bike costs more per mile to ride than my truck that only gets 18 or so MPG. Add nevermind Michigan winters…..

The China scooter 250cc liquid-cooled engines have had numerous cooling related "issues".
so well me and my friend get bored a lot and we wanted to make some kind of vehicle or something we can ride on the sidewalk or street in our neighborhood using some useless stuff.
does anyone know how to attach a electric scooter or a gas scooter motor to something else?
also these are the things we have:
bunch of old skateboards
old bikes
gas scooter
electric scooters
sleds
shopping cart
old thing with 4 wheels attached to it
old tools(my dad was a mechanic)
so any ideas on what we can build?
The funniest thing is to make a "toy", something like a go-kart or weld two bicycles together and the motor in the middle.
I know you don't need insurance or a license, but do you need a helmet?
Yes, it's the law for motorcycles, but I don't think they consider these motorcycles. The max power on one of these things is around 4hp.
Why am I being preached at? You guys need to realize this thing doesn't go over 30mph, I don't ride in traffic, and it does not go on the highway. It would be nice to not have to wear and helmet on a 90 degree day. This thing is not a 400 pound crotch rocket, for gods' sake my weed eater has more hp than this.
I worry about people preaching at me because they could be answering my question instead of waisting my time. They could be legitimately caring, or just trying to sound like they know a thing or two. Either way, it's annoying and if I wanted to be preached at, I would have asked peoples opinion if I should wear a helmet. Aside from this, I ride the scooter so much I've decided to wear a helmet, and not when I feel like it. Thank you everyone who gave constructive answers to the question I asked.
if u had seen the full face helmet i saw at youngstown hd, u wouldnt be asking this. the face sheild, bottom part, and top part saw extremely heavy 'action' from the road.
granted, the rider wound up splashin a hd street glide comin off an exit ramp, but those at the shop told me that if the rider hadnt had a lid on, he'd be hangin out with jimmy hoffa. this helmet basically looked like the rider face planted the road when the glide dumped him.
even vespa's can kill u if u hit ur head on something; it doesnt take much of an impact to cause a severe head injury. if u value ur life, wear 1.
I am looking for a dependable but affordable moped scooter. I have narrowed it down to 2 Cheetah Motorsports Gas Scooters, the Cheetah Metro (50cc) and the Cheetah Cruiser (150cc) but I don't know which one is better?
The Cheetah Metro and the Cheetah Cruiser both have 2 year warranties, both get similar gas mileages (around 95 mpg) and both are good scooters (my wife has the Metro).
The question really comes to down to what are you going to do with it and where do you live? If you live in the city and are going to use it as a local commuter then the Cheetah Metro (50cc ) is all you will need, they have a top speed of 40-45mph. Most city streets have max speed limits of 35-45mph.
If you are in a more rural area or are going to use the scooter as a longer range work commuter and will need to ride on larger roads with higher speeds then the Cheetah Cruiser is the way to go. They have a max speed of 60mph. Or if you plan riding a lot with a passenger or cargo trunk then the Cruiser would be a better choice too.
No one scooter is better it just depends on what you are going to do with the moped.
I have about a 20 mile (round trip) commute to work. Since I work part-time at retail, gas prices are really getting out of hand. I was wondering how much scooters cost and what type would be a good one for my commute and around town. I live in small town with little opportunity, so getting a new job is barely an option
