I live in Wash. DC area and go to school about 3 miles away, but the metro does not go there so I am looking into investing in a Moped scooter…
How much do they cost? ( iwant a 50 cc one)
What is the Gas mileage?
Do you need insurance? (if so how much does it cost?)
Do I buy online or in person?
How long do they last?
Is it safe driving in traffic?
Overall, is it worth it?

Lots of questions which is good. Scooters are a great way to get around.
Cost? = $1200-$1800 for new. Used can be less
Gas Mileage? = 85-110mpg
Insurance? = Depends on your state check with the DMV there
Where to buy? = In person! Never on-line with scooters or you will get either a bad deal or a poorly made scoot.
How long lasting? = If you take good care and do regular maintenance, they will last a long time
Save driving in traffic? = As long as you are highly visible and learn how to lean/turn correctly as not to turn wide into other lanes.
Is it worth it? = I think it is. I love the savings, i love driving scoots, and they are very versatile.
Hope this helps!!

I'm debating between a Cheetah Metro Scooter 50cc or a Cheetah Cruiser 150cc. Which one is better?

The less expensive Chinese made scooters have a major drawback - service and parts. If you find a reliable one you like then don't be fooled - these companies simply do not help consumers very much and they have no real networks to supply parts. Dealers are virtually just sales outlets.

They are "throw-away" models. You ride them, enjoy them, and get so much use. When they wear out or break it's time for a new one. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Aprilla, Vespa…. cost more but they are typically much better built and have support in service and parts. I'd suggest finding a used scooter over a Chinese made scooter any day.

70 miles to the gallon is a safe measure
I don't know about insurance, in my state you don't need a license or a license plate to operate a 50cc or smaller scooter. Do you have health insurance? Most insurance companies don't provide medical coverage over a $1000 unless you pay extra for it. Insurance companies have limits on what they insure and many times that includes it to be a legally recognized motor vehicle or you have to obtain special RV type insurance which is almost useless unless someone steals your ride. Does the cost justify the expense?

With gas prices we are at a cross-roads and scooter travel will certainly be on a huge rise. Things will change as people change their vehicles, the industry that surrounds it will adapt.

First, they are great for the city. A 50 cc scooter is gonna run you about $1000 if you find a good deal. (i actually bought mine for a little bit less) I was told that they get about 80 MPG on gas mileage, i find mine gets about 75 so I cant really complain!!! I didnt get insurance for mine, i dont think it is a vehicle that is required to be insured but I'd check with your insurance. I bought mine online and i had a fabulous experience. It was shipped right to my door and I got to pick the color, the guy who i talked to answered all my questions and was fabulous. I have had mine for about 4 months now and it has held up fabulous. People are really jealous because I never buy gas and I can wiggle around traffic during busy times! I feel really safe on mine but make sure you get a helmet!!! Overall, I really recommend buying one! I checked the site that I bought mine from and the price has actually been dropped!! you should check it out!
